  What is Samui Pride?
The Samui Pride Committee is made up of representatives of the gay business listed on www.gay-samui.com but  also has the enthusiasm and expertise of many gay people living on Samui - some retired and some working across a whole range of other businesses. A founding principle of Samui Pride is that we give back to the local community. Any profit generated will be used to assist the charity chosen by www.gay-samui.com, currently this is the Samui School for Speacial Needs.  (Click here for more information about the school)

Giving back to Local Community

The Samui School for Special Needs looks after some of the most vulnerable and needy children on this island. Children with a range of special needs like Downs Syndrome, Learning Difficulties, Autism and physical disabilities. The school receives no government support (no surprises there) and is wholly dependent on good will and donation

At the north end of Chaweng Beach, starting at 9am, the teams were competing for a THB 10,000 prize fund with the final later in the afternoon. Volleyball is a popular sport locally, and can be very competitive.. Over 100 gay people came from across Samui to compete plus the same number again in supporters, onlookers and passing tourists. Play started at 9:30 am and the finals finished at 6:30 pm. Some teams were sponsored by gay businesses while other teams were groups of guys and girls coming together to support the event and try to win. It was a long day with each match hotly fought over. A close call but 1st place went to Rainbow Scuba 2nd place Ayara Buri 3rd place Boy Zone (Team 1) 4th place Fah Samui (Team 2).

This first event raised 5,000 baht for Samui School for Special Needs and the children themselves came to watch the event and hand out the prizes. It was a big day out for them also and a pleasure to see them enjoying themselves on the beach A special thanks is due to our major sponsors who made this even possible. The businesses listed on www.Gay-Samui.com, Thai Puan Magazine, Cutey Beauty Salon in Bangkok plus the immense time, effort, and financial generosity of Samui Pride Organizing Committee.
